Cool Shit 2/14

I love Unsolved Mysteries. And while this is a great list, it's certainly not my definitive top 10 list of mysteries. Though I do enjoy the unsubstantiated claim that Robert Stack doubled up on Elizabeth Taylor with JFK in a swimming pool. A story like that has gotta be true!

An interview with a chocolate health researcher. Yes, that position actually exists and is taken (at least somewhat, from I can gather) seriously.

I completely missed this story of secrets being leaked from the Vatican, but it's a somewhat crazy read.

Perhaps it's blasphemy to say this, but after reading that one of Kubrick's favorite films was White Men Can't Jump...I just, I'm not sure I can hold him in such high regard anymore. Maybe if he'd said Fast Break I could still respect him.

A few weeks ago I posted to a Vanity Fair excerpt about how Pulp Fiction was brought to the screen. Well, here's a more in-depth article about it.

For Valentine's Day, enjoy these Arrested Development cards from Flavorwire...

Cool Shit 2/6

Interview with Norman Reedus, better known as Daryl on The Walking Dead.

Corporate spies. It sounds so silly when you attempt to define what it is, but apparently it's big business. because, you know people coming up with new ideas to do things is so crazy!

Valentine's Day is coming up. I know some of you will rant about how it's simply a manufactured holiday to keep the Hallmark card industry relevant. And maybe you're right. But perhaps some of these more unusual cards will lighten your cold, dark heart.

On the heels of learning there might be a standalone movie about Yoda, we now get rumors about movies about Han Solo and Boba Fett. I can understand (and potentially get excited for a Han Solo movie), but Bob Fett? Haven't we pretty much gotten his story? Oh sure, it can be fleshed out with some stuff, (I would look forward to scenes where he just continually runs into stormtroopers sans helmets and has to call them "Dads" all the time), but the appeal of Boba Fett in Empire Strikes Back was that there was mystery surrounding him. The more they flesh out his character, the lamer he becomes.

A brilliant breakdown of the new Fast and the Furious trailer from Bill Simmons (The Sports Guy).

There is a place in Nairobi that sells Playstation 2 games. But not just any games - hacked, mashup games. I'm still not sure what's going on, but I do know A.) I want at least one of these games, and B.) The building this store is in sounds utterly awesome and terrifying.

Links of Interest 2/9

Gil Scott Heron returns. And we should all be happy about that.

Heroes is still on? I was honestly surprised when I heard that news. Here's an interview with the creator, Tim Kring.

I sometimes wonder how George Lucas feels about the fans' constant trashing of his movies. And then I remember that he's a billionaire and probably doesn't care. Regardless, here's a movie about the obsession people have with the man.

I'm not gonna lie; I wish I could spin a pen on my hand.

If you only have limited time, here are the must sees of the Vancouver Olympics.

First, I hate that Esquire unironically uses the term "man code" in this "guide" to wooing your loved one with music on Valentine's Day. But I will give him a thumbs not just for the Fela Kuti shout out, but also the recognition that Fela Kuti can be clothes-taking-off music. I've been shouting that for years.

However, he commits the ultimate sin by namechecking D'Angelo as the "go to" when all else fails, without even casually mentioning Marvin Gaye. To me, this is offensive. I'm guessing D'Angelo would suggest Marvin Gaye if he were asked. Save for Here, My Dear, you can't go wrong with Marvin Gaye playing in your bedroom.

I will say this article has given me the idea to come up with a nice little setlist for Valentine's Day. Look for it in the coming days.

Seriously, I bowed out when the author started talking about meeting yourself after walking through a time travel gate.

Inside the campaigns, strategies and history of Oscar nominations.

Sure, there's some science in this article, but really it's just cool to look at lightning in slow motion.

I had no idea these two were married.
