Cool Shit 10/23

Sometimes, creating elaborate posts on the Internet can lead to success...while this show is far from making it on the air, The Second American Civil War, which started as a post on Quora, looks like it's going to be considered.

Interview with Christopher Nolan about his new movie Interstellar.

The trailer that will be everywhere (so why not here?): Avengers 2:

Clarifying the undergarments worn by Mormons.

In case you were really wondering about drinking your urine and whether it was a good idea or not, the internet can help you.

Cool Shit 10/17

Places that look cool to climb, but are impossible to do so, for one reason or another.

Toys that you probably don't want your kid playing with...I'm particularly fond of the CSI crime kit with asbestos...because it came from a simpler time when we had no idea about the dangers of asbestos, back in 2007.

Live in or traveling to the southern hemisphere? Then you'll have a decent chance to see a comet buzz Mars!

Some of these "details" about Nolan's Interstellar seem a little forced to get the total up to 15 (I'm looking at you flask of Earl Grey tea), but others are helping to flesh out what this thing is going to be about. Can't wait to see the alien laser battles!

Oh sure, everyone loves seeing the list of best colleges, but what about a list of the worst colleges?

Dan Harmon is still out there, still creating and still taking risks (reading about the documentary almost feels frightening).

Smuggling Trader Joe's into Canada. And then selling it. For a profit. Canadian piracy at it's finest!

Cool Shit 5/30

If you're into food these destinations better be on your bucket list.

The rise and fall - and potential rise again (with the help of hair weaves) of an L.A. crack dealer.

There doesn't seem to be much of a prize (other than cheese) and the potential for injury is great, but people still seem enthralled by running down a hill over in England.

I never knew this about the movie Airplane! but apparently it's a "remake" of a 50s movie called Zero Hour. Take a look at this video that compares the two...

Great idea for a website: cataloging truly awful products that you can actually buy. Now I just need to know someone that got breast enhancement surgery and I've got the perfect gift!

This interview with Wil and Jaden Smith is uh...interesting. Like multi-dimensional mathematics interesting.

Cool Shit 5/28

Like waterfalls? Here's a look at some of the cooler ones from around the world.

We're coming to the end of Summit season on Everest. Here are 60 facts about the mountain to get you to the end.

Sure these look like cool inventions, but maybe the inventors should have spent at least a little more time with them. You know, so they may have been around to invent something else?

Stephen King has a new book out, and he gave one a rare interview.

So, apparently John McTiernan, famous director of movies such as Diehard and Predator (let's just forget the Rollerball remake ever happened) lied to an FBI agent and is now in jail? I don't think this story has all the details.

Writing about the Federer/Nadal rivalry (in Tennis, you neanderthals) and it seems like Mr. Jenkins has a distinct Nadal bias.

Cool Shit 5/16

This article brings up some decent points. Edible underwear is difficult to bring up during the sexy time. And that of course is just the beginning.

I wonder if Ricky Gervais is simply becoming too saturated in the market. I want to love him and everything he does, but recently he's been making it rather difficult. This interview is just one example of that. And I see where he's coming from - he's trying desperately hard to show that his fame and success hasn't changed him. But I don't think that's the problem. Not that it's cool if it didn't change him, but that is absolutely should have changed him. And his audience would/does understand that change. No one can go from a simple, steady, boring life to hanging out with David Bowie and not have that affect their personality. And Gervais seems to be in denial of that.

Yesterday I offered up a link to help you with the different beer terminologies out there. Today I have a link that will help you use that knowledge to find beer recommendations based on what you like. In a cool visual way.

Not great when there is a mysterious, oozing liquid coming up out of the ground. Even worse when the government tries to suggest its completely harmless when in fact you just know it's the kind of thing that will devour your insides. Oh, you think that's crazy? Well I guess you've never seen this:

(If there's one rule I live my life by, it's "Listen whenever Garrett Morris is saying something.")

Yesterday I also posted some of Bill Hader's great turns as game show hosts. Well today, here's a look at some of his better sketches.

A Tobias Funke audition reel? Sent to Ron Howard? Yes please.

Cool Shit 3/19

The story of a man attempting to achieve the high score on Q*bert, and yet so much more. A great read, especially if you enjoy video games.

Great interview with Patton Oswalt, who seems to have his head on straight about life.

If it keeps adding places like these, we might have to come up with a better name than Google Street View.

There seems to be a need out there for a "toothless" zipper, if these statistics about penis-related injuries is correct. Quick - to Kickstarter!

Looking for new music? Or even better, music that no one has heard of and might blow up so you can honestly say "I knew them before they were big?" Here you go. Here you go too.

Aided by wing suits, two guys go for a jaunt into the city of Rio De Janeiro. I predict this becomes more of a thing, with more wing suit videos popping up at cities all over the world.

Cool Shit 2/15

Interview with David Lee Roth. I enjoyed very much him talking about the current state of Van Halen. A lot of what he says I can completely see, but then he goes and talks about other stuff, which is completely crazy (specifically his rock opera). So I don't know what to think anymore. Other than DLR is batshit insane.

Here's a pretty simple example of how marketing works. I have never tasted these beers, but the cool looking labels have certainly piqued my interest and I will now, notice them in the beer store and probably be more inclined to buy one.

Before reading this article, I'd never heard of Jean Shepherd, or the I, Libertine hoax. Shame on me. A great story here for all the weirdos and "night people."

That New Year's resolution to go vegan not working out for you? Or maybe you just want a challenge. Regardless, here are a few tips that might help you go vegan, should you want to.

An in-depth look into the artist known as Banksy, or as in-depth as you can get about an anonymous person who controls what information he wants out there about himself.

There's a new Die Hard coming out today. Sadly, it seems as though this series has completely gone off the rails and fails to live up to the original - a movie many consider to be a classic. And here's why.

Cool Shit 1/29

Cool list of things you (probably) didn't know about from famous movies.

If you're a Whose Line Is It Anyway fan, you'll want to see who actually won the show. Of course, I don't think this takes the British show into account at all, as Tony Slattery is the obvious true winner. (Paul Merton was my favorite though.) Here's an episode with both Slattery and Merton:

An interview with director Steven Soderbergh.

Original endings to movies. Pretty sure they all made the right decision.

Giving you the best breakdown on sports wagers, read this before you bet the over/under on the National Anthem during the Super Bowl.

Interview with Werner Herzog

The filmmaker Werner Herzog is an inspiration to me. Mostly because he's completely insane. Sometimes, being insane is bad. Like when you're a serial killer. But when you're a movie director, I think it's a great trait.

Anyway, here's an interview with the man. And if you've never heard of him or his movies, take a moment to educate yourself. Here's his wiki page, and here's a fantastic video of him commenting on his relationship with actor Klaus Kinski:

Mitch Hurwitz Interview

This interview with Mitch Hurwitz, creator of Arrested Development, is insightful, depressing, and refreshingly honest. Mostly about his new show, Running Wilde, it also takes a peak inside the mind of a successful creative person and reveals just how much it matters to put out something people will enjoy.

Interview with a Juggalo

Insane Clown Posse. They have a new movie out...

(I particularly enjoy the interplay of the "clowns" (is that how they refer to one another?) and the non-clown people.)

Also for your enjoyment, the A.V. Club recently did an interview with one of them, Violent J. One of my favorite quotes...

Sometimes in our heads, when we’re making a song—like a typical wicked song with some scary themes to it—it plays itself a lot better in our head when it’s all left to the listener to decide how things look and what the story’s like. But when we actually try to do it on film, and show Shaggy and myself cutting people’s heads off or cutting their necks, something weird happens, and it’s not cool. In our opinion, it’s not cool to actually see us doing the murders, as cool as it is to imagine it when you’re hearing the song. That’s our opinion.

I don't hate Insane Clown Posse. In fact, I'm envious. They found a niche and filled it. It's fascinating. I would love to hear from a fan and ask them a bunch of questions as to the appeal of the band. At least I think I would.

Chris Cooper Interview

The A.V. Club interviews Chris Cooper. Normally I wouldn't link to anything like this, because you know, another actor, another interview. It's not exactly the kind of material that makes me get out of bed in the morning.

But after reading it, I was struck by how thoughtful and earnest Chris Cooper was in regards to his work and making movies in general. He seems like a genuinely interesting, humble, real person.

Or maybe it's the peyote I just took.

? From ? and the Mysterians

I knew the leader singer (who goes by ?, Q and Question Mark), from ? and the Mysterians was a little loopy, but I didn't know it was this loopy...

Yeah. When we were playing there she came up to me and this was like, what, ’97, right? And naturally she wanted me to come to her studio and I said, “Uh-oh.” I said, “Well, it’s shaped like a question mark, you know? But when it gets excited, it’s an exclamation mark.” There were tons of kids around there, right? She says, “Oh, I’d like to have a plaster of your cock.” And I said, “Well, at the moment it’s shaped like a question mark.”

Read the entire interview here. And then come back and explain it to me. Any of it.

Bill Murray speaks...

I'll link to anything Bill Murray is involved in...which is why you're getting this interview. Stay for the Garfiled explanation. Brilliant.
