A couple rumors about the new Star Wars movie. And I'm going to say, I agree with Abrams here, focusing on the characters we know, and giving fans a kind of tribute to them before he goes off with new characters. I think it's a smart strategy. Now, if only we can make sure he isn't the primary writer, I think this has the potential to really work.
Now, if Abrams hired this guy to oversee the look and feel of the film, maybe we'd really have something. It is possible of course that Abrams is thinking of things a little bigger than using Legos.

Oh good, Quentin Tarantino is making another western. On the positive side, it won't take much to be better than Django Unchained.

Cool Shit 10/29
New trailer for HBO's True Detectives, which only makes me want to see it more.
Searching for the world's hottest pepper. I can't imagine, once we're talking about peppers above 1,000,000 scoville unites (the measurement to determine the heat of a pepper) that people can really discern between peppers. But I'm not a pepper head so…

Cool Shit 5/17
Sure this guide of upcoming Fall television is set up in a best/worst format, but honestly, nothing truly sounds that good.
I post a lot of nature time lapse videos here, so it's quite possible I've posted this one before, but even if I have, it's worth checking out again. Yosemite is this cool.

Which ship is faster - the Millenium Falcon or the Starship Enterprise? Being fictional ships, you have to get over the concept that at the end of the day, the creators of said ship could just say "mine's faster," and technically be right.

By now, if you're a Star Wars fan, you know that JJ Abrams will be directing the next movie. Should we be excited or terrified?

New JJ Abrams show: Alcatraz
Of course I'll watch it, but begrudgingly. First of all, this trailer gives away waaaaay too much. Second of all, I felt exhausted after it finished. Not because it's particularly exciting, but because I thought about all the time I spent with the last JJ Abrams show I watched. And Hurley showing up in this one didn't exactly make me feel good either...
Unrelated: I always thought Sam Neil would make a great devil in one of those "end of the world" movies.

Trailer: Super 8
When we first caught a glimpse of Super 8, the collaboration between JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg, during the Superbowl, I was underwhelmed. The jump/quick edits and craziness felt too much like MTV and not enough like a good ol' fashioned movie, which I selfishly held out hope for. After that, I heard rumors of the plot involving kids hiding an escaped alien, which sunk me into a deeper funk (as deep as a funk of a highly anticipated movie failing to deliver can be).
But then this new trailer hit the streets...
Looking like a mix between Stand By Me and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, this trailer introduces some interesting angles and fleshes out the fact that there may indeed be a story and not just a string of explosions. Regardless of the plot, I will definitely be checking this one out. I can only hope that at some point during the movie a brilliant French scientist comes onto the scene to explain the phenomena.

Ok, I get it. Our society is split completely down the middle when it comes to politics. Everything has to be black and white. There is no grey. You’re either for or against based on which television talking head you listen to. But really, can we please stop short of suggesting a coup? Please?
Hmmm. This Kinda seems like a big ol’ Catch-22. To save the planet, we must destroy the planet.
Might want to start booking some flights to see some of these places sooner rather than later.
Infiltrating the Freemasons…may be easier than you think.
