New show called Turn, about spies in the American Revolutionary War, coming this April on AMC:
Finally! We've broken the wimpy 16 story height and gone ahead and built a 17 story tall water slide...
A couple rumors about the new Star Wars movie. And I'm going to say, I agree with Abrams here, focusing on the characters we know, and giving fans a kind of tribute to them before he goes off with new characters. I think it's a smart strategy. Now, if only we can make sure he isn't the primary writer, I think this has the potential to really work.
Now, if Abrams hired this guy to oversee the look and feel of the film, maybe we'd really have something. It is possible of course that Abrams is thinking of things a little bigger than using Legos.
And one more Star Wars link - this one is from the Peter Mayhew, aka Chewbacca, photo collection: pictures on the sets of Star Wars that you've never seen before.
Oh good, Quentin Tarantino is making another western. On the positive side, it won't take much to be better than Django Unchained.

Cool Shit 4/25
When comedians attack...each other!
Full admission (as though what I'm about to say is juicy - which it is most assuredly not) there's a not so insignificant chunk of me that would like to participate in the Iditarod. That my chances of making that happen are probably slim, reading this article about it is probably the next best thing. (Also, it's got a really cool interface, if my admission didn't hook you.)
Good lord, this guy had a lot of time and Legos.
A month to go before new Arrested Development episodes. Here's a look at some new character posters just released.
Here's a video of Tilda Swinton dancing to a Barry White song at Eberfest 2013. Pretty sure there's nothing more I can add to that.
(Really I just added this hoping someone would find this blog by searching "Tilda Swinton dances to Barry White.)
Ever wondered what it would take to recreate the roof scene from the original Matrix on a no $ budget?
And finally - before you insult the police for pulling you over, take a moment and recognize everything they have to deal with. At least it wasn't a panther...

Cool Shit 2/11
Matt Taibbi, writer for Rolling Stone (and one of the better investigative journalists out there, in my opinion, reporting on the sins of the government), did an AMA on Redditt. (For those who don't know - an "AMA" is "Ask Me Anything.")
I don't know, do you want a list of songs about one night stands? Because one exists. And here it is. Of course, it doesn't include Norwegian Wood, by the Beatles, which I thought was about a one night stand John Lennon had. Hold on one second as I go wiki it in real time...ok, so it seems, the song isn't about a one night stand, but about an affair - though the description of its meaning by both Paul and John is a little vague on the details, so I'm going to pull an audible and say it WAS about a one night stand, possibly changing the canon of the Beatles in doing so, but hey - where were we?
(A lot of the above might have to do with the fact that I'm currently listening to Tame Impala, a band that some might suggest sound like some of the trippier Beatles catalog, myself included. Listen for yourself...
Quick - get the Weathergirls back together. I smell a new hit (though rhyming anything with "spice" and making it work is going to be difficult. Also, raining spiders might be the next title of my nightmare.)
Movie trailer for Leviathan - a documentary about commercial fishing off the New England coast...though there are many television shows that depict this lifestyle, this movie looks to perhaps take a different visual approach to it. So if you ever thought Deadliest Catch wasn't visual enough to give you the whole picture of what it's like to go out to see for weeks on a fishing boat, this movie is for you. (Warning, if you get seasick easy, this might not be for you):
And then there's this most awesome thing of taking a love of Legos and combining it with a passion of curling, to make this.

March Madness in Lego Form
This is both for fans of NCAA college basketball, and Legos!
I would love to see the Bryce Drew/Valparaiso buzzer beater (unrelated, I love the announcers in that clip, speaking about how close Valpo came, with the previous shot, before the end game drama), which I think is more exciting than some of these...though these seem to be collected solely of championship games.
I think my favorite part of the clip is the sign in the stands during the Michigan/UNC Webber timeout game that reads "This won't count anyway."

Lego Gore
Remember when you would get your Legos out and build a boat or a car, and then the space Legos came out and you could build spaceships?
Yeah, this is nothing like that.
These are not your childhood Legos.

You haven't seen the US/Britain World Cup highlights like this before!
Britain fans probably aren't thrilled with this...but how can you hate on Legos?

Weird prisons. I’m pretty sure if the prison is described as “weird,” you don’t want to get caught there.

I'm a huge Cavett fan, so don't be surprised to routinely see clips of him show up here. This one is genius. Listen to how deftly Cavett attempts to diffuse the situation, and to see how Hepburn will have none of it. I also love how she wants a table so she can put her feet up. It's a classy look
THE BAD:
Maybe if he got hit he would have learned his lesson. Doubtful.
THE BEAUTIFUL:
Who didn't play with Legos as a kid?

Legos were probably my favorite toy growing up, so I'm a little disappointed in myself for not coming up with this awesome idea myself.
I love thinking about and debating things like this. I'm pretty sure, if I were to accidentally be transported to 1000 A.D. I would not only be able to survive, but also thrive. And now, with this thread going on, there's no stopping me.
I just like how this viewer gives us some access to our Milky Way. Awesome tool if you like the astronomy.
I'm having a hard time trying to find a silver lining in the R. Kelly trail for Mr. Kelly. Not 100% sure invoking the Wayans' classic "Wee Man" is going to get you off. Seriously though, I don't believe his defense attorneys have the right strategy...though I don't have a great strategy either. Maybe simply showing Trapped in the Closet a couple of times would suggest to the jury that no man with that level of genius should be locked up. Feel free to suggest your own R. Kelly defense in the comments.
Jeez, Lou - now I won't be able to hear you waxing poetically about the "truth about music" anymore, since someone dared to ask whether you were making any money on something. I'm crushed.
