Getting the Celebrities Together Again

As I was researching some of the videos for this post, I got to thinking a little more about the Band Aid video and what it did for the world. I mean, aside from helping to feed starving people, it showed us how celebrities, however rarely, can put aside their diva status and join together in an act of selflessness and give something back. While not truly inspired, it does show us that there are human elements still inside the superstars. It got me thinking about how often it happens, and that it should happen again soon.

Thinking about the most recent event that came close to the cohesion and celebrity outpouring I remembered the Concert for Hope people quickly put together for the survivors of the devastating Tsunami back in 2006. Sitting on my couch one Friday night, I got to witness this truly bizarre telethon, where Hollywood celebrities came together and worked the phone bank, accepting donations.

Here's a news report that gives you a glimpse of what it was all about:

Now, while the news blurb gives you a hint of the stars involved, it really doesn't scratch the surface. Through some diligent research and video analysis, I have come up with this list of celebrities manning the phones:

Brad Pitt
George Clooney
Nicholas Cage
Danny DeVito
Andy Garcia
Gary Sinise
Kelsey Grammar
James Caan
Ray Romano
Quentin Tarantino
Tim Robbins
Stevie Wonder
Leonardo DiCaprio
Cindy Crawford
Tom Selleck
David Spade
and possibly Johnny Depp

Watching this, the game became what celebrity would you want to speak to from this list? After a couple hours of debate, I think we settled on Tom Selleck. Just because it kinda seemed Selleck was a little out of place. Anyway, here's some video of the stars manning the phones while Diana Ross croons...

Dianna Ross:

So, who would you want to talk to? What would you ask them? And while I certainly don't want a international disaster anytime soon, I do think these bizarre collaborations of global superstars is only a good thing, and I can't wait for the next one.

And just because I had to suffer through it, here's the entire Madonna "Imagine" performance.

I'd have to go Andy Garcia. I would tell them that "I know a guy" that will be calling later to donate 1 million dollars... and then just wait for the magic.

I might have to go Tim Robbins and tell him how much I loved him in Cadillac Man.

I might go Garcia too. Except I'd make him answer questions about Jennifer 8 and what it was like to see Thurman nude before I gave my donation.
